LINEN

The lineage of Loro Piana linen

One of the oldest raw materials in the world, linen is a remarkable fibre that has lost none of its lustre over the centuries. The ancient Egyptians believed that the Gods were swathed in it before they came to Earth, which might explain Loro Piana's obsession with producing fabric that feels so divine.

Masters of Linen™ certified linen is the most exceptional. The raw fibres are masterfully sublimated to enhance all the natural qualities that make linen so timeless; its breathability, resilience, lightness and comfort. Solbiati, a linen protagonist for 150 years and since 2010 an integral part of Loro Piana, has a historical archives composed of 50,000 samples and 10,000 prints, an endless source of creative inspiration.

A natural fibre

For such a touchable fabric, the first part of our linen story is rather hands-off. It is a notoriously low intervention plant, requiring no additional irrigation other than that provided by rain, fertilization, or pesticide treatments to thrive. European flax is even considered a restorative crop as it improves the very soil in which it’s grown.

Fabric that breathes

Linen is highly praised for its thermoregulatory qualities. The fabric quickly wicks away moisture to keep the wearer cool and comfortable. At Loro Piana, linen is also blended with wool, silk, and cashmere to create innovative fabrics that offer added comfort and warmth.

Timeless elegance

That linen ages gracefully is no secret. The fabric is known to improve in texture and appearance over time as the fibres relax and become more pliable, enhancing the drape and feel of the material. Paired with its unique resilience, high quality linen will be loved and worn for decades.

Style that endures

Linen is one of the strongest natural fibres known to man, boasting exceptional durability and longevity. Highly resistant to wear and tear, linen fibres have a natural strength and resilience that allows them to maintain their shape and structure easily. Linen is naturally beautiful, ecologically sound, and incredibly qualitative. It’s little wonder it still captures our mere mortal imagination: it’s a fibre with integrity.
